Tropical Storm Brett is forecast to form in the Atlantic and become a hurricane by Wednesday

Tropical Storm Bret has formed in the Mid-Atlantic Ocean Become a hurricane Wednesday, the National Hurricane Center said Monday afternoon.

The storm now has sustained winds of 40 mph and continues to move westward, the center said.

The Hurricane Center first identified the storm as a tropical depression about 1,400 miles east of the Windward Islands. Monday morning update.

“Environmental conditions appear favorable for intensification over the next few days, with a warmer than normal sea over the trough, abundant mid-level moisture and light shear,” the center said.

The storm is expected to become a hurricane on Wednesday. It’s too early to tell what impact it will have on the American landscape.

The storm could hit the Leeward or Windward Islands later this week. Located where the northeastern Caribbean Sea meets the western Atlantic, the Leeward Islands include the Virgin Islands, St. Martin, and Antigua and Barbuda. To the south are the Windward Islands: Dominica, Grenada, Martinique and others.

The storm is forecast to bring “heavy rain, hurricane-force winds and the risk of flooding from dangerous storm surge and waves” as it moves over the Lesser Antilles as a hurricane on Thursday and Friday.
