Three other people in vehicle made it safely to shore

Police confirmed late Monday afternoon that the body of a 37-year-old St. John’s man was found after a truck he was in went off a bridge at Lake St. John, near Terra Nova.

The man’s body was found about a kilometre down the river from where the vehicle was found submerged.

The truck was also carrying three other people who made it safely to shore.

The man’s next of kin were notified on Monday after Glovertown RCMP found the body during an air search of the area with the assistance of Universal Helicopters.

At approximately 4 a.m. Sunday, Glovertown RCMP received the report that a vehicle had left a roadway and was submerged in a body of water, located in a wilderness area outside the community of Terra Nova.

Glovertown RCMP and Bonavista Bay Ground Search and Rescue searched the shoreline Sunday during the day. The RCMP Underwater Recovery Team arrived on scene and searched the submerged vehicle and surrounding area until they ran out of daylight.

Police continued the search on Monday until the man’s body was found.

At approximately 4 a.m., on Sunday, Nov. 11, Glovertown RCMP received a report that a vehicle had left a roadway and was submerged in a body of water, located in a wilderness area outside the community of Terra Nova.

The vehicle was carrying four occupants, three of whom were able to make it to shore. The fourth man was unaccounted for.

Glovertown RCMP and Bonavista Bay Ground Search and Rescue searched the shoreline yesterday during the day. The RCMP Underwater Recovery Team arrived on scene and searched the submerged vehicle and surrounding area until they ran out of daylight.

RCMP divers are resuming the search of the water this morning. RCMP officers are planning to conduct an air search today with the assistance of Universal Helicopters.
