Waste from western Newfoundland will start being transported to the Central Newfoundland Waste Management’s (CNWM) facility in Norris Arm early next week.

The boards for the CNWM and Western Regional Waste Management (WRWM) reached an interim agreement on Thursday, Sept. 20, according to a release from the western board.

In a separate release, Municipal Affairs and Environment Minister Andrew Parsons said he was pleased with the development.

“We have met on a number of occasions with the chairs of the two regional service boards to discuss how to move forward on this matter,” Parsons said.

“The department is now in the process of engaging an independent financial firm to determine a reasonable, fair disposal fee that is in the best interest of both regions as a whole.”

The analysis is expected to be delivered to the minister in approximately 30 days, the WRWM release indicated.
