It was a chance for members to get to know one another and start a discussion about collaborative actions on immigration for the next few years.
Advanced Education, Skills and Labour Minister Al Hawkins convened the first minister’s roundtable on immigration on Wednesday, Feb. 7
“I am impressed by the members’ enthusiasm and heartfelt desire to address the province’s demographic challenges by identifying initiatives to increase immigration helping to ensure the province’s future social and economic growth and prosperity,” he said in a news release.
The roundtable members include representatives from the business community, labour, the K-12 education system, post-secondary institutions, municipalities, community organizations and service providers.
An update on actions in The Way Forward on Immigration in Newfoundland and Labrador, the province’s immigration action plan, was also given during the meeting. So far, 25 of the 39 priority initiatives are either fully implemented or ongoing.
A second meeting of the roundtable will be held in the spring.
