PORT SAUNDERS, N.L. – Tech-savvy scammers are getting craftier and craftier in their attempts to defraud people from their hard-earned money.
The RCMP in Port Saunders are investigating a text message scam that recently occurred in the area.
According to a RCMP release, a local woman received a text message from someone posing as a relative.
The woman was told she had won $30,000 but would need to send cash to process the transaction and to provide personal information.
The personal information and cellular numbers are believed to have been taken from a Facebook account that was unprotected.
Police say no funds were exchanged and the scammers were blocked.
