Sunday was Walk for Guide Dog Day, and Deer Lake was one of over 300 communities across Canada that participated.
Each guide dog costs $25,000 to raise, train and place, and all dogs are provided to qualified applicants at no cost. The Lions Foundation does not receive any government funding. The program provides many Canadians with medical or physical disabilities mobility, safety, and independence giving Canadians "a new leash on life.”
This year’s walk for guide dogs helped the Deer Lake Lions Club raise close to $3,500 for the continuation of the program.
