ST. ANTHONY, NL – The Walter Short Memorial Atoms Tournament was a tightly contested affair this year with games coming down to the wire.
Held on Saturday, Nov. 18, the tournament featured three teams – one from the Straits area and two from St. Anthony.
Five players from the twin towns (Port au Choix and Port Saunders) were split between the two St. Anthony teams.
Through the round robin, the Straits Rifters, St. Anthony Blue and St. Anthony Grey were evenly matched, each with a win.
The Blue received a bye to the final based on a penalty tiebreaker.
The Rifters then defeated the Grey, 11-10, in an overtime showdown, to advance to the finals.
Ty Genge scored 10 goals for the Rifters, while Tyler Simms scored 7 for the Grey.
The final wasn’t as close as the other games as the Blue defeated the Rifters 10-4 to win the championship.

Sam Reardon and Luke Hamlyn led the way with multiple goals each.
Blue goalie Daniel McGrath was named player of the game.
