NORTHERN PENINSULA, NL - A proposal to develop 46.3 kilometres of mostly coastal hiking trails on the Northern Peninsula has been registered for an environment assessment with the Department of Municipal Affairs and Environment.

The project is being proposed by St. Anthony Basin Resources Inc. and the Town of St. Lunaire-Griquet.

The trail network, located from L’Anse aux Meadows to St. Lunaire-Griquet, will include existing trails, roads and the construction of 18.5 kilometres of new trail.

Trail work on existing trails began in June 2017 and new trails will be constructed next spring. The project will be completed in 2019.

The undertaking was registered on Wednesday and a deadline for public comments has been set for Nov. 17.

Municipal Affairs and Environment Minister Eddie Joyce’s decision is due by Nov. 25.
