Both lanes of highway were blocked for around two hours

GREEN ISLAND COVE, NL. – Route 430, at Green Island Cove on the Great Northern Peninsula, is once again open after a Hydro truck accident blocked both lanes this morning.

The Straits Fire Department, local RCMP, and the Department of Highways was on the scene.

According to Straits Fire Department Chief Hank Diamond, the accident occurred around 9:15 a.m.

The truck tipped over onto its side blocking both lanes of the highway. Diamond said the accident happened next to the fire department’s station two in Green Island Cove.

The driver of the truck suffered no injuries.

While work was underway to move the truck, vehicles passing through had to be re-routed through the town of Green Island Cove.

In the meantime, Diamond said the Department of Highways cleaned up a minor oil spill from the vehicle.

He said a contractor was called, and two loaders were able to move the truck within minutes.

The situation was resolved around 11:30 a.m.
