CORNER BROOK, NL - Three Gros Morne Academy students from Rocky Harbour are headed to chess provincials in in St. John’s after a fine performance at regional competition in Corner Brook on Feb 18.

Jonathan Brown earned a silver medal at the Grade 12 level, Chantal Samms earned silver at the Grade 11 level and Austin Major got the bronze at the Grade 11 level.

Aaron Hingston and Abigail Payne were also provincial qualifiers in Grade 11 by placing fourth and fifth respectively.

The provincials will be hosted at Memorial University in St. John's on March 10. The gold-medal winner for each grade at the provincials earns the right to attend national competition later in May.
