Premier Dwight Ball released the final report, titled “Now is the Time” on Tuesday at Elwood Regional High School in Deer Lake.
The recommendations focus on mental health and wellness, inclusive education, mathematics, literacy, Indigenous education, multicultural education, co-operative education, early years, and teacher education and professional development.
“It is clear that the present model of inclusion, student mental health and wellness, underachievement in mathematics and reading, and Indigenous education require immediate and substantial attention,” the report reads.
In a press release from the Premier’s office, Ball said the report is a reflection of the government’s commitment to enhancing the performance of the province’s education system.
“I am proud that our government continues to deliver on its mandate to examine the education system and develop a concrete plan for enhancing it that includes measurable goals and milestones,” Ball stated in the release.
Dale Kirby, provincial minister of education and early childhood development, said the report would assist
“Improving educational outcomes is vital in helping prepare the needs of students and prepare them to be global citizens in our changing world,”
The task force was comprised of Dr. David Philpott, Dr. Marian Fushell and Dr. Margaret Wakeham and chairperson Dr. Alice Collins.
