Foodies in the province are waiting with bated breath to hear confirmation that TV world traveller and food and culture connoisseur Anthony Bourdain will be visiting the province in the next few days.

The buzz has been circulating on Facebook and Twitter and media that the star of CNN television show “Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown” will be hosted by St. John’s-based Raymonds restaurant.

Rumour has it Bourdain will be hunting Newfoundland game, and savouring the local food.

Bourdain earned some points with locals when he supported the seal hunt a few years ago, maintaining critics of the hunt needed better understanding of traditions and culture around the hunt, and the people who depended on sealing, such as the Inuit.

Memorial University official Noreen Golfman, who’s a founding director of the St. John's International Women's Film Festival and vice-chair of the Newfoundland and Labrador Film Development Corp., tweeted Friday that the word was out that Bourdain would be “walking our streets next week, hunting our woods. Bless you @raymondsnl for making a girl’s dream come true.”

No official announcement has yet been made by anyone connected with the anticipated visit.
