Letter to the Editor -
Dear Editor,
I'm going to show how stupid I am by telling of something I did on the computer and I'm being billed for it. No, actually, I don't think I'm stupid but I certainly am a victim of what I have to call a 'legal scam.' I don't want someone else to make the same mistake.
I got my mobile phone bill yesterday. I saw an extra $22 tagged on for 'texting.' I have never used and never intend to use text messaging. I phoned the company and this fellow gave me his name and identification number. I told him my problem and he said the charges are valid.
Bell Telephone is my provider.
I didn't remember when I was talking to him just what I'd done to receive the messages, but I do now. Someone I know on Facebook sent me a message telling me how to get a Walmart card worth a certain amount of money and I thought that sounded like a good idea. I filled in the registration and part of it was my cell phone number. I never give my credit card numbers on the computer and seldom do I give my cell phone number. Guess I gave it one time too many. My phone began ringing after that and when I'd answer, no one was there. Then I noticed I kept getting messages on the screen saying a number of new messages.
And that's valid?
Please beware.
Sincerely,
Roberta Stevens
