Dear Editor,

I think Stephen Harper and Danny Williams are onto something that will help unite this country:

Stephen Harper has prorogued parliament twice in less than a year; the reason he gave is that his ministers need more time to consult with everyday Canadians. This really means that the discussions in parliament among all the parties are not working in the best interest of this country.

Letters to the Editor -

Dear Editor,

I think Stephen Harper and Danny Williams are onto something that will help unite this country:

Stephen Harper has prorogued parliament twice in less than a year; the reason he gave is that his ministers need more time to consult with everyday Canadians. This really means that the discussions in parliament among all the parties are not working in the best interest of this country.

Danny Williams is doing much the same thing here in Newfoundland and Labrador. He is spending very little time in the House of Assembly; he must be thinking the same way as Harper; the discussions in the House are not in the best interest of this province.

Well, I think they should take their way of thinking one step further and dissolve the House of Commons and the House of Assembly. Get rid of the Senate and all the politicians in the system and start building a new version of this country. Cut ties with the Monarchy in England. Quebec being one of the major shareholders of Canada in a political sense has had a very destructive impression on Canada. They have wanted to separate from Canada for many years and they were even allowed to elect a separatist party to the House of Commons. This has been devastating to the unity of this country.

Between Quebec and Ontario, they together hold the political power of this whole country. This must change and I feel Mr. Harper's way of thinking and Danny Williams' way of thinking if taken one step further can solve those problems and reunite this country from ocean to ocean to ocean. To make each province equal shareholders within the new Canada, give every Canadian the same privileges; get rid of this political blackmail once and for all.

Every town and city in Canada has a local council or elected body to run the affairs of the people; we have Rural Development for the towns and cities; we have local school boards, health boards and other boards to manage the everyday affairs of the nation. So, why do we need a bunch of elected politicians in the House of Commons fighting day in and day out with each other and accomplishing absolutely nothing for the average person. Those politicians are very high paid at their jobs and then they get all the perks plus a one hundred per cent guarantee gold plated pension plan, the only one on this planet.

All this must come to an end; we will save hundreds of millions if not billions of dollars each year. This will reunite this country from east to west where every province will have an equal share; decisions will be made based on need not greed and political blackmail. This country must be controlled by the average Canadian and not by a few people with no real plan to make this country work.

The ordinary local councils and local committees are much closer to the real needs of the average Canadian and together are very capable of making sound and very productive decisions on the everyday needs of this country; those are the only people we need to get the job done in a meaningful way. Now we have too many people in trying to make the same decision but the problem is they are all made for the wrong reasons to get those politicians re-elected and for no other reason - POWER!

The political system within Canada has proven to be very expensive and very devastating to the unity of this country. I have worked all across Canada, in Alberta, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland and Labrador. Those eight provinces and the three territories make up a lot of Canada. There are many different ways of life, but all the final decisions are made in Ottawa based on politics.

Yours truly,

Noah Genge
