Dear Editor,
I am still doing research on my new book about travel in Newfoundland.
I am searching for personnel stories of "getting around in Newfoundland," stories which portray our ingenuity as a people. Stories of travel by train, plane, boat, car especially the first cars in our communities, horse, dogsled, foot, etc. I am sure there are some great stories out there. Stories told by your parents or grandparents. Sometimes we think our stories aren't that great, well they are and deserve to be recorded for new generations. I have some great stories from my own family travelling by train and flying up North to work on the American Bases. Harrowing stories of getting from Marystown to St. John's by taxi over miles of unpaved roads. I would like some stories of going up the Gander River by canoe. Please contact me at 726-2411 or estherbrown@nf.sympatico.ca.
Thank you,
