Dear Editor,

During the Christmas season our minds and our hearts are in many places; with the people we love and in the places we call home.

Family and friends are of course always important but it seems that the holidays have a special way of stirring up these emotions. The loved ones that we have lost are at this time front and centre of those thoughts.

Letters to the Editor -

Dear Editor,

During the Christmas season our minds and our hearts are in many places; with the people we love and in the places we call home.

Family and friends are of course always important but it seems that the holidays have a special way of stirring up these emotions. The loved ones that we have lost are at this time front and centre of those thoughts.

My brother Jim Hudson left this world on June 7, 2009 .

I am writing in regards to a subsequent news broadcast on CBC Here & Now by reporter Paul Piggott after my brother's accident.

To say that it was poor judgment and lacking of any human compassion would be a gross understatement. My brother left this world making every attempt to assist in helping a fellow human being. He died with honour, courage, dignity, selflessness and in my opinion a hero. To have his past dug up and to have his name dragged through the mud by such a person as Paul Piggott is to say the least disgraceful. Nobody among us can state to be perfect and to have a squeaky clean past. Seems to me even news reporters have done things that have been news worthy. It's equally as disgraceful for Mr. Piggott's superiors at CBC to allow such garbage to be aired. We have all seen and been witness to what CBC is capable of in such cases; from waiting outside a church while mourning families try to say good bye to a loved one or to stand with the camera in a mother's face as her child's body was retrieved from a river. These people must not have a conscience or a decent bone in their bodies. How many more families while they attempt to disgrace, how many more will they hurt? I have contacted every department of the CBC in this province requesting both an explanation and an apology only to be treated as though I was in the wrong and asking for something that would never come.

At a time when my family was mourning the loss of our loved one and preparing to say our final good-bye we were as well forced to deal with such garbage as what was aired by the CBC. The man had a past, paid for his mistakes and had moved on with his life. He did something though that will never be forgotten, something that I am sure not many of us would be willing to do, he risked his very life in attempts to help save another. He did this because he was a good man with a kind heart and believed in doing what was right and just. The folks at CBC could surely have learned a lot from my brother. I will not allow them to have the last say or to take away the dignity that my brother so greatly deserves. I can only hope that the CBC learns from such a heartless decision and to never hurt another family the way they have done mine. No apology is necessary as I am sure it would be as heartfelt as the broadcast. I will continue to make my views known for my brother's memory and dignity.

Merry Christmas & Rest In Peace Jim; you will be remembered as a hero by many.

Scott Hudson,

Happy Valley-Goose Bay

Way to go Scott! When I saw that news story aired on CBC, I had the same feelings as you did that day. I was totally disgusted. There is no place in our society for this type of reporting. CBC, without a doubt, is responsible for an apology to you and your family.
