Dear Editor:

I would like to comment on the story in the Sept. 21 edition of the Pen re: the official launch of the new K-12 school and civic centre complex at St. Anthony.

I have to agree with Premier Danny Williams that Newfoundland and Labrador is presently the best place in the world. That's a real done deal with the children, Mr. Premier.

Letter to the Editor -

Dear Editor:

I would like to comment on the story in the Sept. 21 edition of the Pen re: the official launch of the new K-12 school and civic centre complex at St. Anthony.

I have to agree with Premier Danny Williams that Newfoundland and Labrador is presently the best place in the world. That's a real done deal with the children, Mr. Premier.

However, it won't be for long if their parents have to leave them behind to work elsewhere out of the province. They must be wondering why their little friends are leaving them behind? You may think that they are not listening, but it's the opposite. They hear their parents remark often, 'I don't know for how long daddy will be working here in St. Anthony. We may have to sell our homes as we won't be able to support our family if matters continue to decline economically'.

I remember when Premier Joseph Smallwood used to come to our schools in

Bonavista Bay and remark that the future of prosperity is now our hands with the great Churchill Falls hydro project bringing billions to our communities to feed our families. Well, we did not see the billions as Joey was too honest and sold us out to Quebec. Now, Danny Williams is telling the students that the great oil projects will bring growth and prosperity to our province and we will have all and our needs will not have to be met by others.

Well, so far it has not worked for rural Newfoundlanders; maybe the people of St. John's may benefit from it.

The youth of our province are more worried than ever. They don't want to move away from their hometowns. Will they have other alternatives? I think Premier Williams has to be honest with the youth of tomorrow as he certainly is failing with the working people of today who want to prepare their sons and daughters for tomorrows.
