Letter to the Editor -
Dear Editor:
This is a reminder to all parents.
First I have a question to ask: Do you really love your children? If your answer is 'yes' and you are a smoker who smokes in the home, you will take action and protect your precious gift, your children.
The reason I write this is that I was in a home this week that is not more than 900 square feet in size. There were two children in the home - one was an 11-year-old boy who had asthma and the other a 15-year-old.
The parents were both chain smokers, lighting up every five minutes. This went on the whole time I was in their home while they were awake.
Friends, this is not a one-off. I have seen it go on many times in homes across this land. It is our individual choice if we want to die of a slow death, but don't do it to your children. Remember, you are supposed to protect your children.
When your children leave for school, leave to visit friends, you kiss them and say, 'I love you'. When our children leave in the family car as a novice driver, we say, 'I won't rest until they come through the door'. If that is true you will consider them the next time you light that chemical-filled cigarette and pollute their environment.
So, the next time you light up, think about their health.
