The $2.3 million upgrading of Black Duck Cove wharf should be complete by the end of this month.

The Department of Fisheries and Oceans last week confirmed that the publicly tendered project, valued at $2.319 million and awarded to B&R Enterprises Limited of Springdale on January 20 this year, was wrapping up.

A spokesperson said the Black Duck Cove work was initiated to address “operational and safety related issues associated with vessel berthing, fish offloading and general overcrowding at this particular location.”

The work was also undertaken to improve harbour access and vessel maneuverability within the small craft harbour.

The project included a 35 metre extension to the existing marginal wharf, construction of a new 50 metre finger pier wharf, widening of the access channel, dredging within the harbour basin and providing electrical and water services.

The Pen tried contacting Black Duck Cove harbour authority but could not reach anyone for comment.
