"Fun? You knows this is fun," said Adam Reardon as he, Chanda Ward and Victoria Reardon cleaned the beaches in Goose Cove.
"We've found a flower pot, engine, transmission and I spy a teddy bear over there I'm gonna have."
Garbage may be fun, but the Green Team members cleaning up their community for the Goose Cove Come Home Year have an even better time to look forward to.
Aug. 9-16 will see former Goose Cove residents and other locals descend on the community for a week of merriment.
"Goose Cove is known for hospitality," said Come Home Year Committee chair Eugene Reardon. "No fuss, just have a good time."
There'll be a punt row in the pond by the church, softball tournament, street hockey, cross the harbour day and the Garden Party to cap off the celebrations. There'll be a meal each day at the community hall and the skating rink is getting converted into a partially covered venue. More than 400 former residents have already registered to attend.
"It's going to be a big do," said Mr. Reardon. "Right now we're trying to get the town a bit cleaned up for when people come home."
