The family of the late Mitchell Chambers is making an appeal to people to come forward.

They're asking anyone who has information or knowledge about the death of the former Bear Cove resident to contact police in Edmonton, Alberta.

"We greatly appreciate the courage of all those who have come forward with tips and information to date, no matter how small," said Jennifer Warren, a spokesperson for the Chambers family.

The 23-year-old son of Gorvin and Debbie Chambers was shot repeatedly in Edmonton on Dec. 7 while sitting in a truck in front of a residence.

Last week Edmonton police said Mr. Chambers was an "innocent victim of circumstance" and say they have narrowed their investigation into his death to one suspect. Police say the death was neither drug or gang-related.

Staff Sgt. Bill Spinks told Edmonton media that the suspect knew Mr. Chambers through a third party. Police want to speak to Mr. Chambers' friends and associates in Edmonton, who they believe may have vital information.

Ms. Warren noted that at the time of his death, 'Mitch' was enjoying a week off from the rigs and getting ready for the holidays.

"He had spent time that afternoon visiting with his grandparents, and they were spending their first Christmas together since he moved to Alberta from Newfoundland 13 years ago," she said.

Ms. Warren said in a brief moment of violence, the promise of a young life was taken away.

"Mitch was an innocent victim. This could have been your son, brother, grandson, cousin, friend or loved one."

Ms. Warren, a cousin of Mitch's, added that the family is concerned someone with a callous disregard for life represents a threat to everyone's safety.

"We are asking the public for assistance in the apprehension of this murderer so others can be spared the pain and devastation of losing a loved one."

Anyone with information is urged to contact police at 780-423-4567 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
