Highlights from the Northern Pen, October 27, 1981...

"Council upset: Sending telegram"

"Ninety-eight high school students from almost every high school from Deer Lake to Labrador converged on Gunner's Cove for the regional All-Grade Cross Country run."

"Ten members of the 1st Straits Brownie Pack were honoured in a ‘Flying Up' ceremony at Flowers Cove recently. They are (back, left to right) Michelle Marche, Kimberly Genge, Sharon Fitzpatrick, Tracey Genge and Wendy Rose. (Front) Natasha Applin, Michelle Dowden, Ruth Squires and Lorna Burke. Missing: Kimberly Rose."

"Area Cadet Officer Captain Ken Smith acted as inspecting officer, and was joined in the inspecting party by Cadet Officer Reid and Warrant officers WO1 Craig Pilgrim (far left) and WO2 Tracy Reid."

"One thing about Newfoundland...when there's work to be done, everyone lends a hand. Calvin and Eliza Genge had an extension built onto their Anchor Point home recently and when it was discovered that the old shingles required changing to match the new, all seven carpenters clambered to the roof to make short work of it."
