• August — Bird Cove Going Healthy Program: General Health and Fitness runs from Monday to Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Exercise, walking, T-zone and Wii Fit, Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 1-3 p.m.; Community Kitchen, Mondays from 1-4 p.m.; Kids Day, every Wednesday afternoon; Persons with Special Needs, Tuesdays from 1-4 p.m.; Seniors, Tuesdays between 6:30-9:30 p.m. Monthly Wellness Clinics will be held by public health nurse, blood pressure and blood sugar checks and weigh-in, presentations on the monthly health theme and healthy snacks. • August 16 — There will be a prize bingo for Adell (Bromley) Carter on Monday Aug. 16 at 8:30 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion in St. Anthony to help cover medical and travel cost to Poland for MS Liberation Treatment.

 

• August 21 — The Rug Hooking Guild of Newfoundland and Labrador Inc. invites you to the Exhibit of Hooked Mats taking place at Killdevil Anglican Church Camp, Lomond on Saturday, Aug. 21, 2:30-4:30 p.m.

 

• August 24 — Giant Stadium Bingo on Tuesday, Aug. 24. Funds will be used in support of the St. Anthony Junior Girls’ Broomball Team to go to Manitoba for the National Broomball Championships. Time to be announced.

 

• August 31 — St. Anthony Firettes will be hosting a prize Bingo on Tuesday, Aug. 31 at 8 p.m. at the Firehall in St. Anthony. The loonie jar now stands at $204. All patrons must be 19 years of age. Come out and support your local fire department.

 

• September — With over 750 cleanup sites registered across Canada, it is not too late to register for the 17th annual Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup as a Site Coordinator or Cleanup Participant. Most shoreline litter originates from land and land-based activities, so by stepping up and signing up, we are all taking action to stop one of the most widespread pollution problems endangering our oceans and waterways. Plus, what peculiar item do you think you’ll find along your shoreline? this year’s Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup takes place from Sept. 18–26, 2010.
