• July — Bird Cove Going Healthy Program: General Health and Fitness runs from Monday to Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Exercise and walking, Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 1-3 p.m.; Community Kitchen, Mondays from 1-4 p.m.; Kids Day, every Wednesday afternoon; Persons with Special Needs, Tuesdays from 1-4 p.m.; Seniors, Tuesdays between 6:30-9:30 p.m; Monthly Wellness Clinics will be held by public health nurse, blood pressure and blood sugar checks and weigh-in, presentations on the monthly health theme and healthy snacks. • July 23 – July 31 — Bird Cove’s Interpretation Centre and area are celebrating the 4th Annual Big Droke Heritage Festival. With continuing events such as, Heritage Craft Fair, Big Droke Idol, Old Fashion Time at Christmas, Lumber Jack and Lumber Jane Challenge, Communal Family Fun Day, Horseshoe and Washer Competition and a number of other exciting events.

 

• July 26–August 2 — Town of Bird Cove Come Home Year. Events include gatherings, BBQ’s, family picnics, Christmas dinner, traditional dance and mummers, bonfires, disco for adults and kids, outdoor games, church and cemetery services, and mock archaeological digs. Everyone is invited to celebrate our Come Home Year.

 

• July 27 — The St. Anthony Firettes will be hosting a prize bingo on July 27 at 8 p.m. at the St. Anthony Firehall. The looney jar now stands at $151.00. All patrons must be 19 years of age. Come out and support your local Fire Department. 

 

• August 2-8 — Reef’s Harbour, Shoal Cove West and New Ferolle will be celebrating Come Home Year on Aug. 2-8. For more information please call Irene 709-847-5331 or Jeff at 709-847-2151. All are Welcome.

 

• August 6-7 — St. Lunaire-Griquet Summer Festival will take place on August 6 and 7. Friday events: line-n-bake sale, mussel boil, capelin roast and adult dance (music by Ambrose Pilgrim and local talent, admission $5). Saturday events: ball game, Back Cove, children’s games of chance, bike rodeo (children 4-12, bring bike and wear helmet) and adult dance (music by Skipper Hot’s Band, admission $5).

 

• August 13-15 — Goose Cove will be holding their Annual Come Home Year on Aug. 13, 14 and 15. Further details to be announced. For more information please call 454-2732 or 454-8353. Come out and enjoy the events!
