It is with great sadness that the family of the late Irene Hutchings (Feb. 9, 1923 - July 4, 2010) announce her passing on Sunday, July 4, 2010 at Rufus Guinchard Health Care Centre, Port Saunders at the age of 87 years. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her children Malcolm (Alva) Hutchings, Cow Head, Gloria (Primus) Toope, Pond Cove, Barry (Lorraine) Hutchings, Whitecourt, Alberta, Millicent (Lloyd) Saunders, Oshawa, Ontario and Alma (Rick) Biggin, Daniel’s Harbour; son-in-law Ronald Swimm (Diane Payne), Cow Head; grandchildren Sherry, Lorraine, Shane and Randy Hutchings, Krista Pynn, Roger and Keon Toope, Nelson, Rodney, Parry and Michael Swimm, Lindy and Petra Hutchings, Natasha O’Gorman, Tina Seymore, Charlene Saunders, Melissa Biggin-Schoenherr and Rachelle Biggin; 32 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; sister Annie (Carl) Pittman, St. Paul’s; brother James (Paulette) Hewlin, Cow Head; brothers-in-law Rufus, Cow Head, Frank (Thelma), Ontario, Eugene (Annie), Cow Head, Percy (Mariette) Hutchings, Ontario, Claude White, Cow Head and Rendell Payne, Parsons Pond, as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Ralph Hutchings, daughter Bolina Swimm, son Roger Lee Hutchings, grandson Tolson Toope, parents Jesse and Gertrude Hewlin, sisters Ida, Cecilia, Beulah and Alma, parents-in-law Charles and Winnie Hutchings, sister-in-law Rellie Payne and brother-in-law Malcolm Hutchings. Visitation was held at St. Mary the Virgin Anglican Church in Cow Head on Tuesday and Wednesday from where the funeral service took place on Thursday, July 8 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Jean Brenton-Hickman officiating. Interment followed at the Anglican Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, flowers were graciously accepted or donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetic Association. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Fillatre’s Funeral Home. George Maxwell Roberts
Forteau
It is with great sadness that the family of the late George Roberts announce his passing on Wednesday, June 30, 2010 at Labrador South Health Centre Long Term Care Unit in Forteau at the age of 71 years. Leaving to mourn with loving memories wife Jenesta; children Marina Fowler (Dorman), and Selma Normore (Winston); sons Randy (Lisa), Peter (Lisette), Quinton (Kristen), Georgia, and Kayla (Perry); nine grandchildren Connie, Scott, Lucas, Maria, Nathan, Cloe, Mark, Michael and Jamie; brothers Warren, Harold and William; sister Marie, as well as a large circle of other family and friends. He was predeceased by wife Fronia, parents Maxwell and Melsie Roberts, and sister Hazel. Visitors were accepted at the English Point Gospel Hall on Thursday and Friday from where the funeral service took place on Saturday, July 3 at 2 p.m. with Mr. David Hunt officiating. Interment followed at the church cemetery in Forteau. As expressions of sympathy, flowers were graciously accepted. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Fillatre’s Funeral Home, L’Anse au Loup.

Passed away suddenly at the Strait of Belle Isle Health Centre in Flowers Cove on July 3, 2010, Mr. Elijah Genge in his 70th year. Elijah leaves with a lifetime of fond memories his wife Beulah; son William (Delores); daughter Caroline (Kevin); his grandchildren Jonathan and Charli, as well as his sisters Sophia (Rufus), and Joyce; brother Lambert (Naomi); sisters-in-law Effie (Harold), Ida (Lionel), Muriel, Claris (Harold), and Ruby; brothers-in-law Cecil (Evelyn), Jack (Mildred), and Harve (Sherry) along with a large circle of family and friends. Elijah was predeceased by his parents William and Susannah, his brothers Clarence and James and his sister Mary Margaret. Visitation took place at the Anglican Church in Anchor Point from where the funeral service took place at 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 7 with Rev. Kris Gosse officiating. Burial followed at the church cemetery in Anchor Point. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Home, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Levinia Fillatre, funeral director.

Passed away peacefully at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital on June 21, 2010, Mr. Josiah Ward in his 52nd year. Josiah leaves to mourn; one sister Annie Paul; nephew Alvin Paul; one niece Natalia Paul and a number of other relatives and friends. Josiah was predeceased by his father Joseph Ward and his mother Florrie Ward. Visitation was held at the Pentecostal Church in Port Hope Simpson from where the funeral service took place on Thursday, June 24 with Pastor Gillett officiating. Passed away peacefully at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital on June 28, Mr. Walter J. Parsons in his 66th year. Walter leaves to mourn his wife Shirley Simms (Parsons); children Dale (Rose), Elaine (Glenn), Craig (Cynthia), Cindy (Dion) and Lillian (Paul); grandchildren Timothy, Jennifer, Joshua, Shawna, Jeffery, Jessie, Matthew, Dylan and Brandon; great-grandchildren Tiffany and Dalton; sister Elizabeth; and brother Frank. Walter was predeceased by his mother Susannah Peckham (Parsons), father William Parsons and his 13 brothers and sisters. Visitation was held at Bethel Pentecostal Church in St. Anthony from where the funeral service took place at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, June 30 with Pastor Norman Joy officiating. Burial followed at the Bethel Pentecostal Church Cemetery in St. Anthony. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Passed away peacefully at the Health Sciences Centre in St. John’s on July 4, 2010, Mary Helen Gould (Nellie) in her 65th year. She leaves to mourn with a lifetime of memories husband Noah; mother Marjorie; sons Pius, Levi (Amanda), Adrian (Deanna), Glen, and Romeo (Maureen); daughter Angela (Walter); grandchildren Robin, Gabrielle, Danika, Nicholas, Shayla, BJ and James; four sisters Julia (Cyril), Philomena (Frank), Marie (Eric) and Bernadette (Walter); two brothers Mark (Sylvia), and Leo (Aletha). She will also be sadly missed by her many nieces and nephews and all the members of the Gould and Coombs families; her sisters-in-law Rose (Jim), Doreen (Junior), Lucy (Clarence),and Susan (David); brother-in-law Jacob (Pauline), as well as sister-in-law Saline (Gideon) will miss her greatly. She was predeceased by her dad Joseph Myers, four brothers Jim, Junior, Clarence and David, sister Pauline and a number of brothers and sisters-in-law. Visitation was held at the Sacred Heart Church in Bartlett’s Harbour, from where the funeral took place at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 8, with Fr. Rogers officiating. Passed away at the Health Sciences Centre in St. John’s on June 23, 2010, Ida Coombs in her 80th year. Leaving with a lifetime of memories, daughter Joyce (Oswan); grandchildren Bruce (Brada), Darrell (Moya); great grandchild Braden; son-in-law John; as well as her loving sisters Lillian (Lawrence) and Angeline; sister-in-law Semone, along with a large circle of other family and friends. She was predeceased by father Timothy, mother Elizabeth, husband Absalom, son Frank, daughter Sybil, sisters Mary Ann (Thomas) and Christianna (Henry), and her beloved brothers Joseph, James, Aaron (Leah), Thomas and brother-in-law Arthur. Visitation was took place at the Anglican Church in Reef’s Harbour before the funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 26, with Rev. Kris Gosse officiating. Interment followed at the church cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Home, St. Anthony and Roddickton. Levinia Fillatre, funeral director.

Passed away peacefully at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital on July 5, 2010, Mr. Benedict T. Maher in his 82nd year. Benedict leaves to mourn his wife Julia; niece Maria (Lloyd), Stephenville; nephews Tom (Judy), Corner Brook, Dale (Stella), Bird Cove, and Larry (Josie), St. John’s; great-nieces Monique, Denise and families, Shandi and Chelsea; great-nephews Thomas, Joshua, and Steven as well as a large circle of other family and friends. Mr. Mahar was predeceased by his parents Nelli and Thomas, his sisters Helena and Clara and brother-in-law Lawrence (Clara), stepbrothers Pius and Tom and sister-in-law Stella (Pius) and nephews Pius and Tom. The family received friends at Our Lady of Grace Church in Bird Cove on Wednesday and Thursday, from where the funeral took place on Friday, July 9 at 11 a.m. with Fr. Rogers officiating. Interment followed at the Roman Catholic Cemetery in Bird Cove. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatres Funeral Home, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Levinia Fillatre, funeral director.
